Happy New Year All!

2008 the shenanigans continues....

An interesting turn of events leading to my New Year's Eve Celebration that I'd like to share.....

My original plans were to meet my friend Claudine (& Buddy & Deb) at Bobbique to celebrate her birthday and to then to hop over to Kapplers to see FUB play in the latter part of the evening. Around 5pm my knee "popped" 3 times within 90 minutes, decided to lay down a couple hours to get it a rest, when I woke up at 9pm the problem was still there, I was advised by a medical professional to have it looked at ASAP, I got my cane and got in the car and started to drive myself to the hospital on the way I called Claudine to apologize that I was down for the count and would probably be spending the entire evening in the emergency of Brookhaven Hospital, I was not happy but of course Claudine understood. When I got to the hospital at 930pm I was seen immediately and put through each department just as fast (slow night) after the x-rays were taken the doctor came in and said there is nothing we can do for you. I said; but the pain you gotta do something, so they injected some type of non steroid in my thigh (a 5 day fix) and sent me on my way at 11pm. When I got home I realized, my knee aint so bad anymore, and I called a cab and got to Bobbique by 11:30 in time to see Kerry's last set. Kerry approached me and said we gotta get you up, whatcha got? I said a fast shuffle would work well for my original "400 Miles" I was not that confident without my guitar that I could pull off the tune, but I shoulda worried with the Kerry Kearney Band backing me up?  The song came out great even with the breaks and drum fills in the song, everyone enjoyed it. Thank you so much Kerry for having the confidence in me to come up and sing and making my night,  especially when I thought it was going to be spent in the hospital, if you look at my right wrist you can see the wristband on me from the hospital no one had scissors for me to cut it off, I was even able to dance after the whole ordeal, so here's to modern medicine and Brookhaven Hospital for getting me to the gig on time as well as making it to see F.U.B. after hours

It was nice to spend time with old friends and still celebrate Claudine's birthday, I met some new friends as well Debbie, Sandy & Fred who were responsible for the pictures shown below and a ride to see FUB and then a ride home at the end of the night.

Here's to good friends, life "is" kinda special,

THANK YOU !

It's all about the music, man! ;)

BigDaddy & The Bulldogs Runaway Train Cd "Catch Us If You Can" is reviewed by Good Times Magazine this current issue

Big Daddy & The Bulldogs
Runaway Train

Independent

This homemade disc kicks off in with a live jam session and never leaves, creating an album that shows the breadth of Big Daddy & The Bulldogs’ blues capabilities.

This group clearly displays its fluid live performing capabilities. Traveling a great deal to capture this ability, the group does a foot-stomping rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” featuring timeless harmonica solos by Johnnie “Harp” Collett. “Back Where It All Began” is a great folk-rock strum that shifts gear into a chugging cover of “One Way Out” by The Allman Brothers Band. The seamless tempo changes, thorough harmonica interludes, and articulate guitar solos by Mike Bottalico keep Big Daddy & The Bulldogs’ original songs on the right track. They are quick-witted blues artists that have the ability to live up to their motto: “Spreading The Gospel Of The Blues Far & Wide.”

The climax of the album is a fervent cover of The Animals' classic “House Of The Rising Sun” that churns into a blues-rock soliloquy, as Karl “Big Daddy” Reamer makes a direct reference to his father’s love of the rails, revising the verse “my father was a gambling man” to “my father was a railroad man down in New Orleans.” The song contours perfectly to the last deep “Blues Medley,” from their live act.

Drummer Jay Cavanaugh stands out here, continually keeping the pace alive and mimicking the timeless rhythm of the rails that is the backbone to so many blues songs. This album is definitely a great CD to play at a weekend barbeque. "Big Daddy" offers tracks and CDs free on this website, bigdaddyonline.com, which also includes a complete listing of future performances.
